The U.S. military reported that it shot down one of its fighter aircraft flying over the Red Sea, by mistake. The incident occurred on Sunday and the pilots of both airplanes had to eject.

Both pilots were saved, though one of them sustained minor injuries. The incident is being investigated, per the U.S. Central Command.

It was an F/A-18 Hornet flying off the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman.

An escort ship of the carrier, the missile cruiser Gettysburg fired and hit the fighter jet by mistake, per the statement.

The Red Sea has become a hotspot for military activities for over a year now, with Houthis attacking ships in the strategic water body.

The U.S. Navy fired on Houthi missiles and drones over the Red Sea on Saturday and also carried out an attack on the missile storage sites and Houthi command sites in Sanaa, Yemen.
