Shipyard RFP out for Tustumena replacement ferry
The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (Alaska DOT&PF) has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the construction of a replacement vessel for the Alaska Marine Highway System ferry M/V Tustumena.
Designed by Glosten, the Tustumena Vessel Replacement (TRV) is a next generation, ocean class passenger and vehicle ferry featuring diesel electric propulsion, fuel efficient engines, and a hydrodynamically optimized hull. This project represents a major investment in Alaska Marine Highway System’s infrastructure, supporting safe, reliable service for coastal communities and advancing the next generation of ferry design and construction.
Qualified shipyards and industry partners are invited to review the RFP and take part in this critical program.
According to the RFP, “the project consists of replacing the M/V Tustumena with a vessel that provides greater capacity, modernized safety features, increased seaworthiness, and enhanced passenger comfort.”
The project completion date is January 31, 2029.
Sealed bids will be received until 2:00 p.m. prevailing time, May 28, 2026, in the Office of the Contracts Engineer, Engineering Services Building, Room 3, 2301 Peger Road, Fairbanks, Alaska.
