SAAM Towage takes delivery of new high-performance tug SAAM Guanay

Santiago, Chile-headquartered SAAM Towage has taken delivery of a new high-performance tug from Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyards. Named SAAM Guanay. the new Boğaçay Class vessel, is based on Robert Allan Ltd.’s RAmparts 2400SX MKII design and has been specifically designed to optimize maneuvering in ports with restricted space, combining versatility with high installed power.

“The SAAM Guanay brings together the design and power required for today’s operational challenges, incorporating eco-friendly systems that significantly reduce NOx emissions,” said SAAM Towage’s director of sustainability and development, Pablo Cáceres, noting that the vessel is “an ideal solution to support our customers in a reliable, safe and sustainable way.”

“Our partnership with SAAM Towage is built on mutual trust, shared values, and a vision for a more sustainable maritime future,” said Rüçhan Çıvgın, commercial director at Sanmar Shipyards. “We are proud to support their fleet expansion with state-of-the-art tugs that deliver both performance and environmental compliance.”

Designed for optimum performance in ship-handling operations, the tug measures 24.4 meters in length, with a 12 meter beam, 4.5 meter molded depth, and a 5.45 meter draft. Powered by IMO Tier III compliant Caterpillar 3516E main engines delivering 2,350 bkW at 1,800 rpm, the twin Z-drive vessel achieves an 80-ton bollard pull ahead and a free-running speed of 12.5 knots

It is equipped with 77.9 cubic meters of fuel capacity and 11.5 cubic meters of fresh water capacity. Offering FiFi-1 fire-fighting capability, the tug’s deck equipment includes an independent double-drum winch, and accommodation is provided for up to six crew.

A wider-than-average beam enhances stability and overall performance, while advanced machinery automation systems optimize energy use across all operations, reinforcing Sanmar’s and SAAM’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
