Watch: Disney Cruise Ship Saves 4 Boaters From Sinking Catamaran Before Even Entering Service
The Disney Treasure, a brand-new cruise ship, has already created an impression before its first paid voyage.
While still on its way to its home port in Port Canaveral, Florida, the ship diverted to assist four boaters stranded on a sinking catamaran off the coast of Bermuda.
The incident occurred on November 10, when the US Coast Guard received a distress call from a 50-foot catamaran about 230 nautical miles southwest of Bermuda.
The boat was taking on water after a gasket failure, leaving its four passengers in danger of having to abandon the ship.
The Disney Treasure, which was on its way to repositioning after being delivered from its builders at Meyer Werft in the Netherlands, was the nearest ship at the time.
The brand-new ship, which is currently in the last stages of crew training before welcoming its first paying guests next month, responded immediately to the emergency.

According to reports, the crew deployed a lifeboat to rescue the four boaters. The Disney Treasure arrived at the stranded catamaran about 1 p.m., barely a couple hours after getting the distress signal at 11:40 a.m.
The rescued passengers were the first to board the Disney Treasure.
Captain Marco Nogara of the Disney Treasure expressed his pride with the crew’s quick and professional response. He discussed how the crew’s safety training and commitment were crucial to the rescue operation’s success.
The Disney Treasure, a member of Disney Cruise Line’s new LNG-powered Wish class, is set to finish its final fittings and crew training before departing on its inaugural voyage on December 21.
Its dramatic rescue of the four passengers will likely be remembered as a historic moment for the ship even before it begins its official service.
