{"id":10210,"date":"2025-05-26T01:03:59","date_gmt":"2025-05-26T01:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=10210"},"modified":"2025-05-26T01:03:59","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T01:03:59","slug":"royal-navy-carrier-heads-east-of-suez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=10210","title":{"rendered":"Royal Navy Carrier Heads &#8220;East of Suez&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Royal Navy Carrier Heads &#8220;East of Suez&#8221;<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Early on May 24, ships of the HMS <em>Prince of Wales<\/em> carrier strike group began a southerly transit of the Suez Canal.\u00a0Although CSG 25 flagship HMS <em>Prince of Wales<\/em> (R09) was not spotted, HMS <em>Dauntless<\/em> (D33), Canadian HMCS <em>Ville de Quebec<\/em> (F332), Spanish ESPS <em>Mendez Nunez <\/em>(F104), Royal Norwegian Navy Nansen Class frigate HNoMS <em>Roald Amundsen<\/em> (F311) and Norwegian logistics vessel HNoMS <em>Maud<\/em> (A530) were seen in the northern reaches of the canal by @MT_Anderson early in the day.\u00a0The complete CSG is now likely to be through the Canal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>@MT_Anderson spotted the CSG on imagery passing through the mid-Canal Great Bitter Lake, and also identified that the CSG was accompanied by two US Navy Arleigh Burke destroyers, one of which could be USS <em>Truxtun <\/em>(D103).\u00a0The presence with the CSG of a US Navy presence is politically useful, as the Houthis are in an agreed ceasefire with the United States, and the Houthis are unlikely to be able to identify individual units of the CSG.<\/p>\n<p>At about the same time the USS<em> Harry S Truman<\/em> (CVN-75) carrier strike group sailed westwards through the Straits of Gibraltar and out of the Mediterranean, homeward bound.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the military operation\u00a0against\u00a0the Houthis is over,\u00a0the CSG 25 commander has the choice of making directly for the Bab el Mandeb and clearing the Red Sea.\u00a0But the timetable for such a move would be predictable.\u00a0Instead he may wish for a period to conduct maritime security operations in the central Red Sea, the area from which the USS <em>Harry S Truman<\/em> (CVN-75) mounted its air campaign against targets in Yemen.\u00a0An exit southwards from the Red Sea would then become less predictable.<\/p>\n<p>HMS <em>Prince of Wales\u00a0<\/em>has on board two F-35B squadrons (809 Naval Air Squadron\u00a0and 617 Squadron RAF), as well as Wildcat and Merlin surveillance helicopters, with Chinooks to lift the Royal Marines onboard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> \t<BR><br \/>\n <BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<p> \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/maritime-executive.com\/article\/royal-navy-carrier-heads-east-of-suez\">Go to maritime executive<\/a><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n <BR><\/BR><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Royal Navy Carrier Heads &#8220;East of Suez&#8221; \u00a0 Early on May 24, ships of the HMS Prince of Wales carrier strike group began a southerly transit of the Suez Canal.\u00a0Although CSG 25 flagship HMS Prince of Wales (R09) was not spotted, HMS Dauntless (D33), Canadian HMCS Ville de Quebec (F332), Spanish ESPS Mendez Nunez (F104), [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[19],"tags":[59],"class_list":["post-10210","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-maritime-executive","tag-maritime-executive"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10210"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=10210"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10210\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=10210"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=10210"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=10210"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
