{"id":13727,"date":"2025-07-23T20:02:47","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T20:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=13727"},"modified":"2025-07-23T20:02:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T20:02:47","slug":"gldd-unveils-first-u-s-flagged-jones-act-subsea-rock-installer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=13727","title":{"rendered":"GLDD unveils first U.S.-flagged Jones Act subsea rock installer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    GLDD unveils first U.S.-flagged Jones Act subsea rock installer<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Great Lakes Dredge &amp; Dock Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/gldd.com\/\">GLDD<\/a>), the largest provider of dredging services in\u00a0the United States, announced on July 23 a major milestone in its offshore energy strategy with the recent launch of the\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0at Hanwha Philly Shipyard. The\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0is the first U.S flagged, Jones Act-compliant subsea rock installer (SRI) vessel.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0is engineered to transport and precisely install up to 20,000 metric tons of rock on the seabed. This rock provides critical scour protection for subsea infrastructure including subsea cables for power transmission, telecommunications cables, oil and gas pipelines and subsea structures and offshore wind turbine foundations, preventing erosion caused by waves and currents and mechanical impacts from equipment and vessels.<\/p>\n<p>With steel sourced from Ohio, and labor from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Louisiana, construction of the\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0created more than one million man hours of high paying jobs at the shipyard and once operational will employ U.S. mariners for many years to come.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to supporting the U.S. domestic market, Great Lakes has expanded its market focus for the\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0to work in the international offshore energy development markets.<\/p>\n<p>Lasse Petterson, president and CEO, commented, \u201cWe are excited to see the launch of the\u00a0<em>Acadia,\u00a0<\/em>getting us closer to her expected delivery early next year which will also mark the completion of our major new build program. The\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0is the centerpiece of our offshore energy growth strategy and will begin operations immediately upon leaving the shipyard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eleni Beyko, senior vice president, offshore energy, commented, \u201cThe launch of the\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0marks a major milestone for our offshore energy business. Upon delivery, the\u00a0<em>Acadia<\/em>\u00a0will start her journey towards New York for the installation of rock for the Empire Wind I offshore wind farm and continue working on the U.S. East Coast on contracted work through the end of 2026.
