{"id":1465,"date":"2024-12-03T20:02:32","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T20:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=1465"},"modified":"2024-12-03T20:02:32","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T20:02:32","slug":"viking-takes-delivery-of-first-ship-in-new-series-viking-vela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=1465","title":{"rendered":"Viking takes delivery of first ship in new series,   Viking Vela"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Viking takes delivery of first ship in new series,   Viking Vela<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Fincantieri\u2019s Ancona, Italy, shipyard today delivered the <em>Viking Vela<\/em>, the first in a new series of ocean ships on order at the shipbuilder for Viking Cruises.<\/p>\n<p>Viking is working on a project for a partial hybrid propulsion system for future ocean ships based on l<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydrogenfuelnews.com\/hydrogen-fuel-cells-viking-2\/8561447\/\">iquid hydrogen and fuel cells,<\/a> which could allow the company to operate at zero-emission in the Norwegian Fjords and other sensitive environments. While the <em>Viking Vela<\/em> has a traditional propulsion platform, according to Viking, she is considered hydrogen-ready and can be retrofitted in the future.<\/p>\n<p>With a gross tonnage of about 54,300 tons, 499 cabins and able to accommodate 998 passengers on board, <em>Viking Vela<\/em> is classified as a small ship, as are all Viking ocean ships, and will spend her inaugural season sailing itineraries in the Mediterranean and in Northern Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to welcome the newest sister ship to our award-winning ocean fleet,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/?s=%22Torstein+Hagen%22\">Torstein Hagen<\/a>, chairman and CEO of Viking. \u201cTogether with Fincantieri we have built the world\u2019s most elegant small ocean ships. With the arrival of our newest vessel, we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to the Viking way of exploration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Viking Vela<\/em> is the 13th ship delivered to Viking by Fincantieri Group, including two expedition cruise vessels built by Norwegian subsidiary Vard.
