Faced with ever tightening emissions regulations, fluctuating fuel prices, and uncertainty around which technologies will take hold, shipowners and operators need greater confidence in their investment decisions.

Sailing on alternative fuels, such as LNG, ammonia, methanol, and LPG, is one of the most effective ways to minimize a vessel’s environmental footprint and ensure long-term compliance. However, it has been a challenge for the industry to find fuel pump solutions that can not only handle the extreme characteristics of these liquids, but also accommodate different fuel types without the need for pump modifications.

Introducing the new DesFuel Deepwell Pump

The new DesFuel Deepwell Pump from DESMI changes the game. As the world’s first marine fuel pump designed from the ground up for all alternative fuel compatibility and flexibility, it is the perfect solution for Fuel Gas System Suppliers, shipowners, shipyards, and engineering companies looking for trusted performance and reliability, timely delivery, and global technical support.

The new pump’s design is optimized for today’s market needs, having been inspired by DESMI’s cargo gas pump, which has been proven across the global marine industry for performance and reliability since 1996.

As a deepwell pump, the DesFuel Deepwell Pump provides significant benefits over alternative solutions:

Essential components are placed outside the fuel tank for easy access and reducing maintenance costs – no special components or materials are needed for these, improving reliability, requiring less specialized knowhow, and reducing added heat into the fuel/cargo tank (minimizing boil-off gas). It also ensures components are easily accessible without emptying the tank first, significantly simplifying maintenance.

Maintenance and repair without gas-freeing – the pump and drive shaft are installed in a caisson pipe, which can be closed off from the fuel tank. This means the entire pump can be removed, repaired, and reinstalled without costly and time-consuming gas freeing.

No need for filters – the motor is air cooled and the main bearing is oil lubricated, rather than using the fuel itself. This means that the pump doesn´t use filters to remove impurities in the fuel, which will inevitably become clogged, resulting in costly maintenance and downtime.

Optimized for low NPSHr – our pump specialists have optimized the pump’s design for efficiency and very low NPSHr with the use of state-of-the-art CFD tools, which improves usability at lower fuel tank levels.

Ready for all vessels and fuels – the pump will be available in five sizes to cover all vessel types. It has a wide operating window to cater for different engine loads, reducing the need for recirculation and minimizing boil-off gas. The pump is compatible with all current and future fuels with no additional modifications.

Optimized for your process – not only is the pump perfect for fuel flexibility, but it is designed for easy installation and compatibility with fuel gas systems. We also support teams and departments globally with all necessary documentation, warranties, after-sales packages and service agreements.

A solution and service you can trust

The pump was designed and developed by DESMI’s engineering specialists, and each unit is built at our production facility in China. This keeps everything close to the shipyards, reducing transportation time and emissions, which in turn provides possibilities for shorter lead times and optimized cash flow for customers. In addition, keeping production and delivery requirements in the region can also often make contractual approvals easier and faster.

As with all DESMI products, the DesFuel Deepwell Pump is backed by our highly dependable, global service network. We leverage 190 years of experience to ensure customers and stakeholders across the value chain are supported by our dedicated aftersales service, with round-the-clock, local technical support and spares whenever and wherever needed.

In an unpredictable marine industry, no one knows what will happen over the coming years. However, with the new DesFuel Deepwell Pump, shipowners and operators can be sure they have the most flexible, cost-effective and reliable alternative fuel pump solution on the market, making their vessels – and their business – ready for whatever the future holds.

Press Release

MI News Network

Go to marine insight

World’s First Marine Fuel Pump Purpose-Built For Alternative Fuel Flexibility Image Credits: DESMI Marine businesses operate in an unpredictable environment.
