{"id":16718,"date":"2025-09-12T20:02:48","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T20:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=16718"},"modified":"2025-09-12T20:02:48","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T20:02:48","slug":"davie-defense-unveils-plans-for-its-1bn-american-icebreaker-factory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=16718","title":{"rendered":"Davie Defense unveils plans for its $1BN American Icebreaker Factory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Davie Defense unveils plans for its $1BN American Icebreaker Factory<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Davie Defense Inc., the newest member of Davie Shipbuilding\u2019s parent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inocea.com\/\">Inocea Group<\/a>, has given a first glimpse of the American Icebreaker Factory that could be developed at the historic Gulf Copper shipyard in Galveston, Texas.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignleft is-type-wp-embed is-provider-marine-log wp-block-embed-marine-log\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"xxrjZYLDsQ\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/shipyards\/shipyard-news\/davie-moves-to-acquire-gulf-coppers-galveston-and-port-arthur-shipyards\/\">Davie moves to acquire Gulf Copper\u2019s Galveston and Port Arthur shipyards<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"\u201cDavie moves to acquire Gulf Copper\u2019s Galveston and Port Arthur shipyards\u201d \u2014 Marine Log\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/shipyards\/shipyard-news\/davie-moves-to-acquire-gulf-coppers-galveston-and-port-arthur-shipyards\/embed\/#?secret=SQGcxVPiF0#?secret=xxrjZYLDsQ\" data-secret=\"xxrjZYLDsQ\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Initial plans for the project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/shipyards\/shipyard-news\/davie-moves-to-acquire-gulf-coppers-galveston-and-port-arthur-shipyards\/\">first emerged back in June<\/a> when Davie Shipbuilding announced its intention to acquire shipbuilding assets in Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas, from Gulf Copper &amp; Manufacturing Corporation, saying that it planned to invest $1 billion to upgrade and expand capacity in Galveston and Port Arthur.<\/p>\n<p>The American Icebreaker Factory concept has been produced in collaboration with Miami-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/?s=Pearlson\">Pearlson Shiplift <\/a>which has led major projects for many leading American shipbuilders, including BAE Systems, Austal USA and Fincantieri Marinette.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-boost-for-american-shipbuilding\">Boost for American shipbuilding<\/h4>\n<p>Once strategic shipbuilding programs are secured, Davie Defense says that it could directly support over 2,000 skilled jobs and over 7,000 jobs throughout the supply chain at these facilities, according to a new independent study.<\/p>\n<p>The Davie Defense Arctic Security Cutter is a proven fourth-generation design for a real polar icebreaker. Seven vessels are already in service. The platform is ready to build and fully aligned with all USCG mission requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Davie Defense, in partnership with Helsinki Shipyard, can deliver the first ASC in 26 months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur purpose is about investing to create new, efficient capacity in the U.S. and rapidly delivering the ships America needs. We have already built the ASC hull seven times over,\u201d said Skvaria. \u201cThis means we can build new American ASCs quickly and transfer Finland\u2019s unrivaled icebreaker know-how to the United States.
