{"id":16836,"date":"2025-09-15T20:02:47","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T20:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=16836"},"modified":"2025-09-15T20:02:47","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T20:02:47","slug":"australia-commits-aud-12-billion-to-kick-off-henderson-shipbuilding-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=16836","title":{"rendered":"Australia commits AUD 12 billion to kick off Henderson shipbuilding plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Australia commits AUD 12 billion to kick off Henderson shipbuilding plan<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In a statement released yesterday, Australian defense ministers said that the Albanese administration will provide AUD 12 billion [about USD 8 billion] towards delivering a Defence Precinct at Henderson to deliver continuous naval shipbuilding and AUKUS capabilities in Western Australia.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignleft is-type-wp-embed is-provider-marine-log wp-block-embed-marine-log\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"mgkmcHzC2V\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/news\/video-australia-to-expand-naval-shipbuilding-capabilities-at-henderson-shipyard\/\">VIDEO: Australia to expand naval shipbuilding capabilities at Henderson shipyard<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"\u201cVIDEO: Australia to expand naval shipbuilding capabilities at Henderson shipyard\u201d \u2014 Marine Log\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/news\/video-australia-to-expand-naval-shipbuilding-capabilities-at-henderson-shipyard\/embed\/#?secret=OBbwLdMiTk#?secret=mgkmcHzC2V\" data-secret=\"mgkmcHzC2V\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/news\/video-australia-to-expand-naval-shipbuilding-capabilities-at-henderson-shipyard\/\">we reported at that time,<\/a> plans for the expansion of the Henderson Shipyard into the Defence Precinct were first unveiled in October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlongside the Albanese Government\u2019s record investments across shipbuilding and AUKUS in Western Australia, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minister.defence.gov.au\/media-releases\/2025-09-14\/additional-defence-funding-deliver-henderson-defence-precinct\">the statement, <\/a>\u201cthese commitments will support 10,000 direct jobs over the next two decades as well as providing opportunities for small and medium sized businesses across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s announcement of new money is a significant down payment for the Defence Precinct, with early independent planning and advice indicating the Henderson Precinct will require investment in the order of AUD 25 billion over the decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis early commitment of funding will provide certainty to industry who will partner on the construction of infrastructure and facilities and will also kick-start early works whilst more detailed planning and design work for Henderson are finalized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This initial investment will underpin the delivery of:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The construction of surface vessels for the Australian Defence Force, starting with Army\u2019s Landing Craft and, pending successful consolidation, the domestic build element of A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/news\/bae-systems-chosen-for-26-billion-australian-frigate-program\/\">ustralia\u2019s future general purpose frigates;<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Facilities to support the sustainment of Australia\u2019s surface combatant vessels;<\/li>\n<li>Contingency docking capabilities for Australia\u2019s future conventionally-armed, nuclear\u00ad powered submarine fleet from the early 2030s;
