Indian PM Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the country\u2019s largest and most expensive cruise terminal at the Mumbai Ballard Pier today.<\/p>\n

The new Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at the Indira Dock will enable Indian to transform into a world-class cruise tourism destination.<\/p>\n

Constructed at a whopping cost of Rs 556 crore, it spans 4,15,000 square feet and has 4 levels to handle around 1 million passengers annually, which is approximately 10,000 people in a day.<\/p>\n

Cruise operations at the terminal began in April 2024, when the country\u2019s Union Minister Sarbanda Sonowal flagged off the first ship departures from the facility.<\/p>\n

It can accommodate 5 cruise liners simultaneously, allowing for a quick turnaround even during peak travel times. There are 72 counters for check-in and immigration.<\/p>\n

Th operational area covers 1,70,000 square feet. There is a dedicated parking space to accommodate more than 300 vehicles, for the smooth and convenient movement of passengers and visitors.<\/p>\n

The design of the building is inspired by the ocean, with its wavy ceiling and minimalist yet functional architectural features. It\u2019s not only for travellers but also for locals who can visit the complex for leisure, shopping and recreation.<\/p>\n

This project was a vital part of the government\u2019s Cruise Bharat Mission, which aimed to expand cruise tourism in the country. Authorities aim to handle about 200 cruise ships annually, each carrying around 500 guests.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
