U.S defence firm Anduril has opened a new manufacturing centre in Sydney to build undersea drones called \u2018Ghost Sharks\u2019 and deliver on the Australian dollar 1.7 billion supply contract that it had signed with the Australian Navy.<\/p>\n

Australia awarded the contract to Anduril in September to co-develop a fleet of Ghost Shark vessels in the next 5 years to join the Royal Australian Navy.<\/p>\n

Dozens of drones will be built in Sydney and will then be exported to the U.S and other countries, after receiving the approval of the Australian government.<\/p>\n

Anduril announced that the first vehicle was completed ahead of schedule and could go for testing before delivery in January.<\/p>\n

The 7400 m2 plant will begin full-scale manufacturing in 2026 and is estimated to generate atleast 150 jobs.<\/p>\n

Over 40 local businesses will also supply components of machines, parts and other raw materials required for the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday marks a defining moment in our mission to bring sovereign undersea capability to Australia,\u201d Anduril Australia CEO David Goodrich said.<\/p>\n

Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy stated that the project would strengthen Australia\u2019s domestic manufacturing capabilities and secure well-paid and high-skilled jobs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
