{"id":20729,"date":"2025-11-24T20:03:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T20:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=20729"},"modified":"2025-11-24T20:03:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T20:03:07","slug":"hmm-awards-hd-hyundai-a-1-46-bn-containership-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=20729","title":{"rendered":"HMM awards HD Hyundai a $1.46 BN containership contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    HMM awards HD Hyundai a $1.46 BN containership contract<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>South Korea\u2019s HD Hyundai reports that it has secured an order worth around $1.46 billion from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hmm21.com\/company\/aboutUs.do\">HMM <\/a>for eight ultra-large containerships worth around $1.46 billion, recording the largest container ship order volume in 18 years since the shipbuilding supercycle in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Placed with HD Korea Shipbuilding &amp; Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai\u2019s shipbuilding business, the HMM contract is for eight 13,400-TEU dual-fuel containerships.<\/p>\n<p>The vessels ordered are 337 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 27.9 meters in height. They are equipped with LNG dual-fuel engines and a significantly enlarged fuel tank\u2014expanded by approximately 50%\u2014to enhance operational efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the eight HMM vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and six by HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries scheduled consecutively through the first half of 2029.<\/p>\n<p>With this contract, HD Hyundai has achieved its largest container-ship order volume since 2007, when global cargo demand peaked during the economic boom (793,473 TEU).<\/p>\n<p>HD KSOE has now secured orders for a total of 720,000 TEU (69 vessels) in containerships this year, marking the highest order volume among Korean shipbuilders.<\/p>\n<p>HD Hyundai says that the containerships that it builds are regarded as highly cost-competitive when considering operating expenses over the vessel\u2019s entire lifecycle, despite their relatively higher prices compared to competitors.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignleft is-type-wp-embed is-provider-marine-log wp-block-embed-marine-log\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"BeWULJZWJD\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/technology\/dnv-verifies-hd-hyundais-hinas-control-system\/\">DNV verifies HD Hyundai\u2019s HiNAS Control system<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"\u201cDNV verifies HD Hyundai\u2019s HiNAS Control system\u201d \u2014 Marine Log\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/technology\/dnv-verifies-hd-hyundais-hinas-control-system\/embed\/#?secret=hyyph5hZNt#?secret=BeWULJZWJD\" data-secret=\"BeWULJZWJD\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Since 2023, HD Hyundai has applied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/technology\/dnv-verifies-hd-hyundais-hinas-control-system\/\">HiNAS Control<\/a>\u2014an autonomous navigation assistance system developed by Avikus, a subsidiary specializing in autonomous navigation\u2014to newly built vessels.
