Parker Towing christens M\/V Tony Lowros towboat

Parker Towing Company, Tuscaloosa, Ala., christened the M\/V Tony Lowros<\/em> towboat on November 13, honoring the longtime employee whose five-decade career in transportation has spanned Alaska\u2019s remote airports, Kentucky freight terminals, and the inland waterways of the Southeast.<\/p>\n Built in 2007 by Eymard Marine in Harvey, La., the 60-foot vessel currently operates on the Black Warrior River and surrounding systems. The towboat<\/a> is powered by twin Cummins KTA-19 diesel engines that produce a combined 1,200 horsepower through Twin Disc 5222 reduction gears. Company officials said the vessel continues Parker Towing\u2019s focus on reliability and service across America\u2019s river network.<\/p>\n The vessel is named for Tony Lowros, who joined Parker Towing<\/a> in 1995 as port manager at the Hardin County Port in Counce, Tenn. He moved to the company\u2019s main office as traffic coordinator in 1997 and was promoted to traffic manager in 2007, a position he continues to hold.<\/p>\n Lowros\u2019 transportation career began in 1975 with Wien Air Alaska, where he served in multiple operations and customer-service roles in Deadhorse, Kotzebue, Juneau and later Salt Lake City. He went on to work for Burlington Northern Air Freight before moving into marine logistics as terminal manager for Bulk Terminals Inc., overseeing coal operations for Scott Paper Co. in Mobile, Alabama.
