Derecktor to build new Chartwell-designed research vessel for SoundWaters

Mamaroneck, N.Y.-based Derecktor Shipyards reports that it has reached and agreement to build a new vessel for SoundWaters, <\/a>a Stamford, Conn., nonprofit dedicated to environmental education and Long Island Sound stewardship.<\/p>\n Designed in collaboration with Chartwell Marine, the new purpose-built research and education vessel will expand SoundWaters\u2019 hands-on marine science programming.<\/p>\n The new 50 \u00d7 23 foot aluminum research catamaran will be named R\/V Brewer <\/em>in honor of Jack Brewer, founder of Brewers Marinas. Derecktor says that it blends proven performance with a flexible educational layout optimized for data collection, onboard learning, and passenger safety.<\/p>\n Construction will take place at Derecktor\u2019s Mamaroneck yard.<\/p>\n Personnel: 2 Crew + 35 Passengers Navigation & Electronics: Integrated Garmin package supplied by L&L Electronics and a lighting package from Imtra.
