{"id":23089,"date":"2026-01-09T20:02:32","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T20:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=23089"},"modified":"2026-01-09T20:02:32","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T20:02:32","slug":"department-of-labor-awards-13-8m-in-shipbuilding-workforce-development-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=23089","title":{"rendered":"Department of Labor awards $13.8M in shipbuilding workforce development funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Department of Labor awards $13.8M in shipbuilding workforce development funding<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the award of nearly $14 million in funding to support the development of programs aimed at reinvigorating and rebuilding the U.S. maritime industry and shipbuilding workforce.<\/p>\n<p>Administered by the department\u2019s Bureau of International Labor Affairs, the department awarded $8 million to Pennsylvania\u2019s Delaware County Community College and $5.8 million to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy to advance the next generation of American shipbuilders through hands-on, c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/8m-available-to-support-u-s-shipbuilder-training-with-international-help\/\">utting-edge training programs developed in conjunction with international partners.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRestoring America\u2019s maritime dominance can\u2019t be accomplished without skilled American workers,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/osec\">Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeReme<\/a>r. \u201cIn line with President Trump\u2019s executive orders, these projects will help train our next generation of shipbuilders and ensure the skills critical to revitalizing our shipbuilding industry are developed here at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Implementing these programs advances the department\u2019s goal of reaching one million registered apprenticeships nationwide as part of the President\u2019s promise to restore American manufacturing and put American working families first.<\/p>\n<p>The projects will develop a specialized, internationally recognized curriculum on shipbuilding trades to expand apprenticeship opportunities in the United States, working directly with U.S. shipyards and supporting innovation in areas such as modular and icebreaker technology.<\/p>\n<p>In alignment with President Trump\u2019s Executive Order, \u201cRestoring America\u2019s Maritime Dominance,\u201d the initiative seeks to revitalize and rebuild the U.S. maritime industry and shipbuilding workforce, while also promoting national security and economic prosperity. The projects also support Executive Order, \u201cPreparing Americans for High-Paying Skilled Trade Jobs of the Future,\u201d by ensuring workforce programs align with real-world emerging industry needs.<\/p>\n<p>These efforts support the growing strategic importance of collaborating with allied nations on maritime issues in the Arctic and polar regions.
