The 130-meter vessel will operate entirely on battery-electric power when it enters service between Buenos Aires and Uruguay carrying up to 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles across the River Plate.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignleft is-type-wp-embed is-provider-marine-log wp-block-embed-marine-log\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"KquhmwS4hD\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/passenger\/ferries\/incat-tasmania-launches-the-worlds-largest-battery-electric-ship\/\">Incat Tasmania launches the world\u2019s largest battery-electric ship<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"\u201cIncat Tasmania launches the world\u2019s largest battery-electric ship\u201d \u2014 Marine Log\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/passenger\/ferries\/incat-tasmania-launches-the-worlds-largest-battery-electric-ship\/embed\/#?secret=P9xurGSNTH#?secret=KquhmwS4hD\" data-secret=\"KquhmwS4hD\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The start of harbor trials marks the first occasion that Hull 096 \u2013 the largest battery-electric vessel ever constructed \u2013 has moved under its own battery-electric propulsion, signalling the transition from construction to operational testing.<\/p>\n<p>The harbor trials will see the vessel undertake a carefully managed series of movements on the Derwent, allowing crews to test propulsion, maneuverability, control systems, and onboard operational performance in real-world conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The trials marktthe first time a ship of this size and passenger-vehicle capacity has operated solely on battery power anywhere in the world, marking a major step forward for large-scale electric shipping.<\/p>\n<p>Incat Chairman Robert Clifford said the commencement of harbor trials was a critical moment for the project and the global maritime industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the moment where the ship truly comes alive,\u201d Clifford said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoving Hull 096 under its own battery-electric power is a world first at this scale and confirms that electric propulsion is viable for large commercial vessels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarbor trials allow us to test how all systems perform together in the water.
