{"id":23748,"date":"2026-01-22T20:02:26","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T20:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=23748"},"modified":"2026-01-22T20:02:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T20:02:26","slug":"ingalls-completes-uss-zumwalt-ddg-1000-builders-trials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=23748","title":{"rendered":"Ingalls completes USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) builder\u2019s trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Ingalls completes USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) builder\u2019s trials<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>HII\u2019s Ingalls Shipbuilding division has successfully completed builder\u2019s sea trials for USS <em>Zumwalt <\/em>(DDG 1000), putting the ship back in the water for the first time since 2023.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/shipyards\/shipyard-news\/zumwalt-departs-bath-iron-works\/\">Delivered in 2016, <\/a>USS <em>Zumwalt i<\/em>s the lead ship in the three ship Zumwalt class \u2014 originally conceived as a 32 ship program in the early 2000s, but subsequently r<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/products\/gao-07-115\">educed to 7, then 3 <\/a>ships. Equipped with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navalnews.com\/naval-news\/2023\/05\/us-navy-discloses-155mm-advanced-gun-systems-preliminary-fate\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">now-abandoned <\/a>Advance Gun System, (AGS) Zumwalt was originally conceived as a long-range naval gunfire support platform to back amphibious operations.<\/p>\n<p>Now the ship has emerged  from Ingalls as the Navy\u2019s first Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) platform.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignleft is-type-wp-embed is-provider-marine-log wp-block-embed-marine-log\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"U8TJJlwAJY\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/shipyards\/shipyard-news\/ingalls-awarded-10-5-million-to-start-zumwalt-class-upgrade-planning\/\">Ingalls awarded $10.5 million to start Zumwalt-class upgrade planning<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"\u201cIngalls awarded $10.5 million to start Zumwalt-class upgrade planning\u201d \u2014 Marine Log\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/shipyards\/shipyard-news\/ingalls-awarded-10-5-million-to-start-zumwalt-class-upgrade-planning\/embed\/#?secret=Rw5X1cRmHU#?secret=U8TJJlwAJY\" data-secret=\"U8TJJlwAJY\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Shortly after arrival at Ingalls in August 2023, USS <em>Zumwalt <\/em>was moved onto land where the Ingalls team completed major technology upgrades. These included integrating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.war.gov\/News\/News-Stories\/Article\/Article\/4173098\/navy-proves-sea-based-hypersonic-launch-approach\/\">Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) <\/a>weapon system and replacing the original twin 155mm Advanced Gun Systems with new missile tubes. In December 2024, USS Zumwalt was undocked and underwent further preparations for operational readiness.<\/p>\n<p>USS <em>Lyndon B.
