China Constructs World\u2019s Largest Car Carrier Capable Of Shipping 10,800 Cars

Beijing\u2019s shipbuilding industry has achieved a new milestone by building a new LNG dual-fuel car carrier, with a capacity for 10,800 cars, the largest in the world currently.<\/p>\n

Constructed by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI) for South Korea\u2019s HMM, the ship has reportedly left the dock.<\/p>\n

It is the largest car carrier built in the country, which meets the International Maritime Organisation\u2019s Tier III emission standards.<\/p>\n

The earlier record was held by Anji Logistics\u2019 \u201cAnji Soundness\u201d and \u201cAnji Ansheng,\u201d both with a capacity to accommodate 9,500 vehicles.<\/p>\n

These two sister ships were once the world\u2019s largest post-Panamax car carriers.<\/p>\n

The latest carrier is 230 m long, 40 m wide and has a 10.5 m draft. It has 14 decks, enabling it to load electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles and heavy-duty trucks.<\/p>\n

At present, SAIC has China\u2019s largest car carrier fleet, with its subsidiary Anji Logistics maintaining a fleet of 41 vessels.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
