Two of the cranes are designated for PortMiami, with the third deployed at Port Houston.

According to Seaboard Marine, the cranes will expand handling capacity at terminals that serve high volume trade routes within the Americas. The LHM 550 model has an outreach of up to 54 meters (177 feet) and a lifting capacity of up to 104 metric tons, allowing it to handle larger container vessels.

PortMiami handled more than 1.1 million twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2024. Seaboard Marine is the largest carrier by cargo volume at the port. The additional cranes are expected to increase berth productivity and support container, refrigerated cargo and breakbulk operations.

The Port of Houston processed more than 4.1 million TEUs last year, setting a port record. At that facility, the added crane capacity is intended to provide greater flexibility for container handling as part of Seaboard Marine’s multipurpose service operations.

The cranes include customer specific features such as tower extensions and customized support pads to accommodate site conditions at each terminal. Each unit is powered by an electric drive system and uses hydrostatic technology to support lifting operations under varying load conditions.

The delivery builds on a long standing relationship between Liebherr and Seaboard Marine that began in 2001. Seaboard Marine now operates a total of eight Liebherr cranes across its terminals.

Service and maintenance support will be provided through Liebherr USA Co., with regional teams based in Miami and Houston.

The post Seaboard Marine adds mobile harbor cranes at PortMiami and Port Houston appeared first on Marine Log.

Heather Ervin

Go to marinelog

Seaboard Marine adds mobile harbor cranes at PortMiami and Port Houston Seaboard Marine Ltd. has taken delivery of three LHM 550 mobile harbor cranes from Liebherr for use at its private terminals at PortMiami and Port Houston.
