American shipbuilders will work and learn alongside Helsinki\u2019s experienced icebreaker builders. This will support the efficient all-American construction of three ASCs at Davie\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/news\/davie-defense-closes-gulf-copper-acquisitiom\/\">shipbuilding facilities in Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The five icebreaker award completes the award of contracts for 11 Arctic Security Cutters, fulfilling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/10\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-authorizes-construction-of-arctic-security-cutters\/\">President Trump\u2019s directive to rapidly expand America\u2019s icebreaker fleet. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>It follows the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/shipbuilding\/shipyards\/shipyard-news\/uscg-awards-bollinger-and-finlands-rmc-contracts-for-up-to-six-arctic-security-cutter-icebreakers\/\">contracts awarded last December<\/a> to Rauma Marine Constructions Oy (RMC) of Rauma, Finland, and Bollinger Shipyards Lockport, LLC. of Lockport, La. Two of those ASCs will be built in Finland, and four by Bollinger in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur adversaries continue to look to grow their presence in the Arctic, equipping the Coast Guard with Arctic Security Cutters will help reassert American maritime dominance there,\u201d said Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. \u201cRevitalizing the U.S. Coast Guard\u2019s icebreaking capabilities is crucial for our security and prosperity, and today\u2019s announcement is an important step in that direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re deeply honored by this vote of confidence,\u201d said Davie Defense CEO Kai Skvarla. \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to get started on delivering mission-ready cutters to our valued U.S. Coast Guard partner. By anchoring construction in Texas, while drawing on Helsinki Shipyard\u2019s proven icebreaker expertise, we can deliver the ASCs to meet the Coast Guard\u2019s operational needs in the world\u2019s harshest environments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davie\u2019s ASC design is based on a proven platform with seven previous variants delivered from Helsinki Shipyard.
