At Least 15 Dead After Passenger Ferry Capsizes On Nile River In Sudan

At least 15 people have died after a passenger ferry capsized on the Nile River in Sudan on Wednesday, according to a medical group.<\/p>\n

The ferry was carrying at least 27 people, including women and children, when it sank in the Shendi district of northern Nile River province.<\/p>\n

The Sudan Doctors Network, which monitors developments related to the country\u2019s ongoing war, reported that 15 bodies had been recovered.<\/p>\n

The group said six people survived the accident. It also stated that residents and rescue teams were continuing to search for at least six others who remain missing.<\/p>\n

According to the Sudan Doctors Network, authorities have been urged to send specialised rescue teams and proper equipment to speed up the search operations.<\/p>\n

Boat accidents are not uncommon in Sudan. Similar tragedies involving overloaded vessels have occurred in the past, as safety measures are often ignored on the country\u2019s waterways.<\/p>\n

The cause of the capsising has not yet been officially confirmed. Search efforts were still ongoing at the time of reporting.<\/p>\n
