No arrests were made. Homeland Security Investigations is leading the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The interception took place during a routine patrol on Friday night, when the crew of a Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft detected a panga-style go-fast vessel carrying several bales and fuel containers about 100 nautical miles north of Camuy, Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n<p>The Sector San Juan Command Center redirected the Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Napier to intercept the vessel and coordinated with task force partners, including Customs and Border Protection\u2019s Caribbean Air and Marine Branch, Ramey Sector Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1885055\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1885055\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1885055\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.marineinsight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/cocaine-3.jpg?resize=1200%2C628\" alt=\"cocaine\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/cocaine-3.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/cocaine-3-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/cocaine-3-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/cocaine-3-768x402.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/cocaine-3-150x79.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1885055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image Credits: USCG<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As the cutter approached, the suspected smugglers reportedly carried out evasive manoeuvres and threw their cargo overboard before fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The crew of the Joseph Napier recovered 29 bales from the water, which later tested positive for cocaine.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, U.S. Border Patrol agents located the abandoned go-fast vessel ashore near Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
