Greece\u2019s shipping minister has warned that the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz is \u201calarming\u201d as dozens of ships remain stranded amid tensions with Iran.<\/p>\n

The waterway, which handles about 20% of the world\u2019s oil and gas, has been closed for four days, halting tanker movements.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards reportedly warned they would fire on any vessel trying to pass through the strait.<\/p>\n

The closure is putting pressure on global energy supplies, and a longer disruption could raise oil prices, freight costs, and insurance for ships in the area.<\/p>\n

Any prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could limit oil supplies, raise freight costs, and increase insurance for vessels operating in the region.<\/p>\n

Greece, which controls one of the world\u2019s largest merchant fleets, has significant exposure in the region. At least 10 Greek-flagged vessels are inside the Gulf, with five more nearby, carrying dozens of Greek seafarers.<\/p>\n

In total, over 325 Greek-linked ships are in the wider area.<\/p>\n

The Greek shipping ministry has advised vessels to avoid the region since Saturday and is in constant contact with ship operators and crews.<\/p>\n

Shipping Minister Vassilis Kikilias called the situation worrying, stressing that seafarers should not be caught up in geopolitical conflicts, and that their safety is the top priority.<\/p>\n

The ministry is maintaining round-the-clock contact with affected vessels. Shipping Minister Kikilias said crews are safe for now, but the situation remains unstable and could escalate.<\/p>\n

Greece has also set up a plan to repatriate thousands of its stranded nationals in the region. However, the effort is complicated by closed airspace over affected areas, making evacuation logistics difficult.<\/p>\n
