{"id":3305,"date":"2025-01-14T20:03:39","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T20:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=3305"},"modified":"2025-01-14T20:03:39","modified_gmt":"2025-01-14T20:03:39","slug":"ingalls-christens-amphibious-transport-dock-harrisburg-lpd-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=3305","title":{"rendered":"Ingalls christens amphibious transport dock Harrisburg (LPD 30)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Ingalls christens amphibious transport dock Harrisburg (LPD 30)<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>HII (NYSE: HII) christened the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock <em>Harrisburg <\/em>(LPD 30) January 11 in a ceremony at its <a href=\"https:\/\/hii.com\/what-we-do\/divisions\/ingalls-shipbuilding\/\">Ingalls Shipbuilding<\/a> division in Pascagoula, Miss.<\/p>\n<p>LPD 30 is named after Harrisburg, Pennsylvania\u2019s capital city, and commemorates that city\u2019s rich history and longstanding support of the United States military. From its origins as a trading outpost to the present, the city of Harrisburg has played a key role in the development of the nation\u2019s industrial history. It also played a critical role during the nation\u2019s Westward Migration, the American Civil War and the Industrial Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday is more than just a christening; it is a celebration of craftsmanship, commitment and the enduring purpose of the work we do every day at Ingalls,\u201d said Ingalls Shipbuilding president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/?s=%22Brian+Blanchette%22\">Brian Blanchette.<\/a> \u201cLike its namesake, Harrisburg \u2014 with its rich history of strength, resilience and leadership \u2014 shares the same qualities reflected in our shipbuilders, whose dedication ensures the Navy and Marine Corps have the advanced ships they need to protect and defend our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Harrisburg\u2019<\/em>s co-sponsors are Alexandra Curry, a resident of Middletown, Pennsylvania, and wife of Middletown\u2019s mayor, and Jennifer D\u00edaz, a resident of Philadelphia, and wife of Chris D\u00edaz, chief of staff to the Secretary of the Navy. The pair were honored during Saturday\u2019s ceremony and officially christened Harrisburg by smashing a bottle of sparkling wine across the bow of the ship.<\/p>\n<p>Rear Adm. Tom Anderson, program executive officer, ships, provided the keynote address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo the sailors and shipbuilders of the future USS <em>Harrisburg<\/em>, I extend to you my deepest congratulations,\u201d Anderson said. \u201cThank you all for the work and sacrifices you have already made, and for everything you will do to bring this ship to life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LPD 30 will be the U.S. Navy\u2019s 14th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship and the first Flight II in the class.
