Mercantile & Marine Group is planning to build the Middle East\u2019s biggest biofuel processing plant in Fujairah. It will have the capacity to produce 150 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel annually and is valued at AED 2.2 billion.<\/p>\n

MENA Terminals are being modernised and expanded to span an additional 1 million square feet and work is estimated to be done by 2026, with the production accounting for 10% of the present global SAF production.<\/p>\n

Murtaza Lakhani, CEO of Mercantile & Maritime, said that the expansion is a major step for the company and the sustainable energy sector in the UAE.<\/p>\n

He expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, the Ruler of Fujairah, whose support made this endeavour a major milestone.<\/p>\n

He added that Fujairah is strategically located and is perfect for the Biofuel facility at MENA Terminals, the biggest of its kind in the UAE, and the investment in this facility shows the commitment of the company towards being sustainable, in tandem with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Initiative.<\/p>\n

The facility will function with carbon-neutral processes, and the company will utilise local rail networks to distribute the SAF across the UAE.<\/p>\n

He also added that by locally producing SAF, they are decreasing the nation\u2019s dependence on imports and reducing carbon dioxide emissions across the entire supply chain, including conventional shipping methods.<\/p>\n

The plant will be integrated with AI to optimise operations and maintenance. It will meet international standards set by IATA, CORSIA, and RED III, which support the highest level of environmental compliance.<\/p>\n

MENA Terminals will present a 3D model of the plant at ADIPEC 2024, which is being organised at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 4 to 7 November.<\/p>\n
