{"id":4371,"date":"2025-02-05T20:02:32","date_gmt":"2025-02-05T20:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=4371"},"modified":"2025-02-05T20:02:32","modified_gmt":"2025-02-05T20:02:32","slug":"port-halifax-wins-green-shipping-corridor-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=4371","title":{"rendered":"Port Halifax wins Green Shipping Corridor funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Port Halifax wins Green Shipping Corridor funding<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Transport Canada has awarded the Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia, up to CAD 22.5 million, under the Green Shipping Corridor Program, to accelerate development of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.porthalifax.ca\/ports-of-halifax-and-hamburg-working-to-decarbonise-shipping-corridor\/\">Halifax \u2013 Hamburg green shipping corridor <\/a>by:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>preparing to host, and potentially refuel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/?s=%22alternative+fuels%22\">alternative fuel-powered <\/a>vessels;<\/li>\n<li>establishing a hydrogen production facility;<\/li>\n<li>electrifying port equipment to reduce emissions; and<\/li>\n<li>acquiring an electric rail locomotive and launching an incentive program to shift freight traffic from road to rail.<\/li>\n<li>$2.5 million for the ship to shore crane Infrastructure project, under the National Trade Corridors fund, to relieve supply chain congestion, expand terminal capacity, and increase speed and efficiency when servicing larger vessels at the Port of Halifax.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Transport Canada says that the investment in clean port operations and infrastructure collectively enhances supply chain efficiency by relieving congestion at the port. By improving terminal capacity and optimizing operations through modernized infrastructure, these initiatives will streamline logistics and facilitate the smooth movement of goods, ultimately supporting economic growth and job creation within Nova Scotia\u2019s maritime sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur ports are essential to global trade and to Canada\u2019s economy. By investing in green shipping corridors, supply chain infrastructure, and clean technologies, we\u2019re taking decisive action to reduce emissions,\u201d said Canada\u2019s Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, Anita Anand. \u201cTogether, we\u2019re building a sustainable future for transportation, while supporting jobs and driving economic growth in Nova Scotia and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an important project supporting the future for the port and our competitiveness,\u201d said Fulvio Fracassi, president and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority. \u201cAs the global shipping industry continues to take steps to decarbonize, we need to be prepared for the transition. We\u2019re pleased to have been awarded this funding and look forward to embarking on next steps.
