Unit for the Italian Navy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Work Starts on the First &#8220;Fremm Evo&#8221; Unit for the Italian Navy<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>[By: Fincantieri]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fincantieri.com\/en\/\">Fincantieri<\/a> has started construction on the Italian Navy\u2019s first of two next-generation FREMM frigates, known as the \u201cEVOLUTION\u201d version or FREMM EVO.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The milestone was marked with a steel-cutting ceremony held at the Riva Trigoso (Genoa) shipyard.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The construction contract for these two new FREMM EVO units\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naval-technology.com\/news\/italian-navy-extends-order-for-two-more-evolved-fremm-frigates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was signed in July 2024<\/a>\u00a0by Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, a joint venture between Fincantieri and Leonardo, and the Organisation Conjointe de Coop\u00e9ration en mati\u00e8re d\u2019Armement (OCCAR).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This contract is a part of the multi-year\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naval-technology.com\/projects\/fremm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FREMM<\/a>\u00a0programme, a collaborative effort between France and Italy to construct 21 FREMM frigates for their respective navies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spanning 140 metres (m) in length and 20m in width, these frigates have a displacement of 6,000 tonnes and can accommodate 108 officers and crew members.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eight regular FREMM ships have been delivered to the service as part of a contract for ten units going back to November 2005.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The delivery of the first FREMM EVO unit is scheduled for 2029, with the second to follow in 2030.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The FREMM EVO units will be equipped with new technology, including anti-drone systems and the capability to operationally manage uncrewed systems in all three dimensions: above the surface, on the sea, and below the surface.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The frigates will feature reliable equipment supported by maintenance plans, ensuring high operational availability and readiness for action.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These new vessels incorporate recent defence programmes and the Mid Life Upgrade project for\u00a0<em>Horizon<\/em>-class destroyers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The upgrades will focus on the ship management system cyber-resilient, the air-conditioning and electrical distribution systems, and eco-friendly solutions for the platform system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The combat system will also see enhancements with the modern combat management system SADOC 4 cyber-resilient, dual-band X-C fixed-face radar sensors for TBM threat defence, electronic warfare, artillery and missile systems, the sonar suite, communication system, and tactical data links.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> \t<BR><br \/>\n <BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<p> \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/maritime-executive.com\/corporate\/work-starts-on-the-first-fremm-evo-unit-for-the-italian-navy\">Go to maritime executive<\/a><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n <BR><\/BR><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Work Starts on the First &#8220;Fremm Evo&#8221;
