{"id":7249,"date":"2025-04-07T20:04:13","date_gmt":"2025-04-07T20:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=7249"},"modified":"2025-04-07T20:04:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T20:04:13","slug":"crst-expedited-settles-claim-it-pulled-job-offer-over-criminal-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=7249","title":{"rendered":"CRST Expedited settles claim it pulled job offer over criminal history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    CRST Expedited settles claim it pulled job offer over criminal history<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Iowa-based carrier CRST Expedited Inc. has agreed to pay $100,000 and take corrective actions to settle claims that it unlawfully rescinded a job offer based on the applicant\u2019s criminal history, according to the California Civil Rights Department.<\/p>\n<p>California\u2019s Fair Chance Act requires employers to show a direct relationship between the duties of a job and an arrest or conviction before rejecting an otherwise qualified candidate, the department said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/calcivilrights.ca.gov\/2025\/04\/03\/civil-rights-department-secures-fair-chance-act-settlement-with-iowa-based-trucking-company\/#:~:text=SACRAMENTO%20%E2%80%93%20The%20California%20Civil%20Rights%20Department%20%28CRD%29,subsidiary%20of%20an%20Iowa-based%20transportation%20and%20logistics%20company.\">news release<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>CRST, which admits no wrongdoing in <a href=\"https:\/\/calcivilrights.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2025\/04\/2025.03-CRST-Settlement-Agreement-Executed_Redacted.pdf\">the settlement<\/a>, will pay $100,000 to the unnamed job candidate, train employees involved in employment decisions on the Fair Chance Act and ensure company policies comply with the law, including a provision that convictions more than 7 years old are not considered.<\/p>\n<p>The California law forbids most employers from asking about criminal history before making a job offer and limits disqualifying convictions to those that have a \u201cdirect and adverse\u201d bearing on the job.
