{"id":7779,"date":"2025-04-15T20:02:35","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T20:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=7779"},"modified":"2025-04-15T20:02:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T20:02:35","slug":"usace-and-usmma-partner-to-modernize-kings-point-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=7779","title":{"rendered":"USACE and USMMA partner to modernize Kings Point campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    USACE and USMMA partner to modernize Kings Point campus<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nan.usace.army.mil\/About\/\">New York District <\/a>and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) have entered into a long-term agreement for the revitalization and modernization of USMMA\u2019s campus located in Kings Point, New York.<\/p>\n<p>The initial 10-year agreement was signed by Brig. Gen. John Lloyd for USACE and VADM Joanna Nunan for USMMA during an April 11 ceremony at Kings Point.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement follows President Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/news\/industry-applauds-wide-ranging-trump-executive-order-on-maritime\/\">executive order to restore America\u2019s maritime dominance.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Secretary of Transportation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/uncategorized\/marad-to-play-a-key-role-in-implementing-trump-maritime-executive-order\/\">Sean Duffy<\/a> visited the academy earlier this month to tour the campus and deliver a keynote address to the midshipmen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMerchant marine cadets have answered the call to serve our country, and it\u2019s our duty to deliver an institution worthy of their sacrifice,\u201d said Secretary Duffy. \u201cOur mariners are critical to President Trump\u2019s agenda to make American shipbuilding great again, and more importantly protecting our national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe health of the maritime industry is of vital national security and economic interest, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is proud to lend our team\u2019s expertise to these revitalization efforts at USMMA,\u201d said Brig. Gen. John Lloyd, USACE North Atlantic Division commander and division engineer. \u201cThe future mariner leaders who come through this campus will be charged with protecting our nation\u2019s critical interests, and it is imperative their education is supported by world-class facilities and infrastructure equipped for the modern learning environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking forward to rehabilitating and modernizing the campus infrastructure at the USMMA,\u201d said Col. Alexander Young, Commander USACE New York District. \u201cIt is necessary to ensure current and future generations of Midshipman receive a first-class education. We hope this partnership will serve as a building block for additional collaboration both short and long-term.
