{"id":7944,"date":"2025-04-17T20:02:32","date_gmt":"2025-04-17T20:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=7944"},"modified":"2025-04-17T20:02:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T20:02:32","slug":"ports-of-indiana-and-metro-ports-extend-bulk-cargo-partnership-at-burns-harbor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krogragg.com\/?p=7944","title":{"rendered":"Ports of Indiana and Metro Ports extend bulk cargo partnership at Burns Harbor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Ports of Indiana and Metro Ports extend bulk cargo partnership at Burns Harbor<br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><br \/>\n    <!-- no image --><br \/>\n \t<BR><br \/>\n<BR><\/BR><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ports of Indiana and terminal operator Metro Ports have signed a five-year extension of their bulk terminal operating agreement at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/inland-coastal\/m-v-pile-is-burns-harbors-first-ocean-vessel-of-2025\/\">Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor. <\/a>The agreement reaffirms both organizations\u2019 commitment to growing bulk cargo operations and providing industry-leading customer service at Indiana\u2019s Lake Michigan port.<\/p>\n<p>Metro Ports, a leading national terminal operator and one of the longest-operating stevedores in the U.S, has managed bulk cargo handling at Burns Harbor since 2017 and oversees the efficient movement of essential materials \u2013 such as coking coal, limestone, iron ore pellets, grains and minerals \u2013 via ocean vessels, Great Lakes ships, river barges and railcars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMetro Ports has been an outstanding partner at Burns Harbor and their continued leadership will be instrumental as we increase bulk cargo-handling capacity at the port,\u201d said Jody Peacock, CEO of Ports of Indiana. \u201cTheir decision to launch their first Great Lakes operation here in 2017 marked a pivotal moment for bulk-cargo growth at our port. Today, we\u2019re proud to continue building on that success and strengthening Indiana\u2019s role in global supply chains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burns Harbor handles approximately 3 million tons of cargo annually and plays a key role in the movement of critical commodities supporting the steel, agriculture and construction industries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndiana offers a strong business environment, and we\u2019re very optimistic about the opportunities at Burns Harbor,\u201d said Lee Swietlikowski, President of Metro Ports. \u201cPorts of Indiana is making transformational investments in infrastructure, allowing us to expand capabilities and better serve the industrial and commercial markets across the Midwest. With roots dating back to the California Gold Rush, Metro Ports was incorporated in 1923 and is one of the oldest stevedoring companies in the United States.
