NYK Group Welcomes First Methanol-Powered Bulk Carrier \u2018Green Future\u2019

The NYK Group has added its first methanol-fueled bulk carrier to its fleet with the delivery of Green Future, a dual-fuel vessel capable of running on both methanol and fuel oil.<\/p>\n

The handover took place on May 13 at the TSUNEISHI Factory of TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. in Japan. The vessel has been chartered by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd., a group company of NYK, from KAMBARA KISEN Co., Ltd.<\/p>\n

A naming and delivery ceremony was held at the shipyard. During the event, Yuko Tsutsui, Managing Executive Officer and Chief Executive of the Sustainability & Transformation Headquarters at NYK, officially named the ship Green Future.<\/p>\n

This delivery is a crucial step for the NYK Group, as Green Future is the company\u2019s first bulk carrier equipped with a dual-fuel engine designed to use methanol alongside traditional fuel oil.<\/p>\n

Methanol offers environmental advantages due to its cleaner-burning nature. When bio-methanol and e-methanol, produced using hydrogen from renewable energy sources and captured carbon dioxide, are used, the vessel can significantly cut down greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n

The newly delivered carrier has a length of 199.99 meters, a breadth of 32.25 meters, and a depth of 19.15 meters. It has an approximate deadweight of 65,700 metric tons and a cargo capacity of about 81,500 cubic meters. Its draft measures 13.8 meters.<\/p>\n
