Meantime CNN reports the New York Police Department as saying that the<em> Cuauht\u00e9moc<\/em> \u201cexperienced a mechanical malfunction,\u201d citing a preliminary investigation by several agencies. CNN cites a senior City official as saying. \u201cIt was the current that took it under the bridge. It wasn\u2019t supposed to be headed in that direction.<\/p>\n<p>While the ship did not have a tug escort, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinelog.com\/?s=McAllister+Towing\">McAllister Towing<\/a>, said on Sunday that one of its vessels \u201cassisted the <em>Cuauht\u00e9moc <\/em>as it departed Pier 17.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following is McAllister\u2019s full statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMcAllister Towing is aware of the incident involving the Mexican naval training vessel Cuauht\u00e9moc and the Brooklyn Bridge on the evening of May 17. We extend our deepest sympathies to all those impacted by this event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of our vessels assisted the Cuauht\u00e9moc as it departed Pier 17 en route to anchorage, where the vessel was scheduled to take on bunkers. Following the allision, our crew provided additional assistance and promptly notified the appropriate authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the cause of the incident is still under investigation, McAllister Towing is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities and will continue to support the review process as needed.
